Serendipiti II, 1996

Mirror box, closed-circuit television, and monitors.
In Serendipity 1 from 1970, entering the mirror room was a volitional act; in this version, it is not. This time, people were instead “led” into the space without realizing it. This second version of Serendipity includes mass media, which ultimately transform individuals and represent their effect on people. Monitors installed on the walls of the mirror room displayed images captured by two cameras—one inside and one outside the gallery—and allowed viewers to see both the people walking through the exhibition and those passing by on the street, showing how everyone, even unintentionally, ended up inside the box.
